Fidelity Stock Transfer℠
Building a new financial platform from concept to enterprise scale. I co-founded it as its First Designer and hired the team.
Fidelity Stock Transfer is Fidelity's first cloud-based transfer agent, an SEC-registered transfer agent. Fidelity Investments is one of the world’s largest financial-services firms, managing trillions in assets for tens of millions of investors.
Visit the marketing site ↗Transfer agents had run on mainframe systems, paper, postage, and medallion guarantees for decades. SEC rules give an agent three to five business days to turn a routine transfer around, and most just follow the rule. The opportunity was to rebuild that infrastructure as a transparent, real-time, digital-first experience that companies and their shareholders could trust, and to beat that standard, not just meet it.
The hard part was trust: connecting issuers, employees, and shareholders through Fidelity’s broader ecosystem.
- Hiring and building the team
- Product design and end-to-end UX
- A research and coaching practice from the ground up
- Content and marketing design
- Go-to-market for issuers and shareholders
- A demo and shipping culture
Processing at the speed of the internet, not postage
Issuers and shareholders get real-time reporting and a comprehensive view of vested and locked-up shares in one place, with secure digital verification in place of time-consuming medallion guarantees where applicable.
One login across every Fidelity account
The platform integrates with NetBenefits and Fidelity.com, giving customers a single, unified view of retirement, brokerage, and registered stock accounts, at home or on Fidelity’s mobile app.
Onboarding that does the heavy lifting
A dedicated onboarding team informs a company’s shareholders and transfers records from its previous agent. A typical migration takes about six hours of a team’s time, spread over six weeks.
Creating momentum across the business
To build momentum across the business, I created a recurring demo ritual for Fidelity Stock Transfer, bringing together engineering, operations, product, data, go-to-market, legal, design, and research to share work, surface decisions, and align around what we were building.
For the event promos, I used Fidelity Stock Transfer-themed visuals to make the ritual feel more visible, memorable, and connected to the product. The goal was simple: make progress visible, make decisions easier, and give every function a role in building the platform.
From account experience to enterprise platform
What began as a bet, that a transfer agent could run in real time, is now a live platform and a growing company. It launched as the first cloud-based transfer agent integrated with Fidelity’s suite, serving issuers and their shareholders at enterprise scale. See the marketing site at fidelitystocktransfer.com.
